Shandong Optimizes Ship Building and Maintenance Industry

(June 18)--The Ministry of Commerce announced today that thanks to continuous efforts to improve the shipbuilding and associated product production capacity, Shandong Province saw its ship building, marine engineering and associated ship product industry develop in a rapid but also balanced manner. At the same time, the entire industry’s economic benefits soared, the industrial structure was optimized further and the comprehensive strength increased significantly. In the first five months of 2008, the Province’s ship industry saw its total output value grow by more than 60% year-on-year. With regard to the 7.27 million DWT in orders-in-hand, the major shipbuilding enterprises that have undertaken them plan to complete the ships by 2012.
